Differentiation of True Polypoid Tumors of the Colon from Extraneous Material: A New Roentgen Siqn

Abstract
This report briefly surveys the causes of false roentgen shadows of polypoid tumor seen on air-contrast barium-enema examination. Several signs for defining the base of a true polyp are outlined. By utilizing these signs, a true polypoid lesion can be identified and extraneous material excluded with a high degree of accuracy. The "target sign" of stalked polyps and the "hat sign" or superimposed ellipses of broad-based polyps are the most consistent aids for identification and differentiation of polypoid tumors.
