POSTTRAUMATIC CEREBRAL SWELLING RESULTING IN CYST FORMATION

Abstract
Two cases post-traumatic cyst formation immediately following head injury are described. In both cases, the gross examination of the brain disclosed an advanced degree of cerebral swelling, and microscopic examination showed changes characteristic of cerebral liquefaction. The view is expressed that the cyst formation is a sequel of a high degree of cerebral liquefaction of the white matter. The significant role of vascular changes characteristic of vasoparalysis in the occurrence of posttraumatic swelling is emphasized.
