Tholeiitic basalt from the Monowai seamount, Tonga-Kermadec ridge (Note)

Abstract
Samples dredged from a depth of 120 m near the summit of the active Monowai seamount (25°53'S, 177°11'W) are glassy tholeiitic basalts containing modal feldspar (An95_77), olivine (Fo^), magnetite, and a clinopyroxene unusually enriched in alkalis and alumina. Fractionated Fe-enrichment is notable within the feldspars and similar to patterns in comparable basalts from the Kermadec islands.
