Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A sixty-three-year-old woman entered the hospital because of anemia.Thirty-eight years previously she had rheumatic fever, with painful swelling of multiple joints that persisted for a year. Twenty-eight years later she was informed that she had a heart murmur and was given digitalis. Edema and exertional dyspnea were present for several years before entry. Eighteen months before admission she was referred to the Cardiac Clinic, where the murmurs of aortic stenosis, mitral stenosis and mitral regurgitation were heard.
