Abstract
Properties of a series of polymers containing mesogenic elements separated by flexible spacers in the backbone have been described. It is shown that 1st order thermotropic phase transitions take place. It is shown that the increase in the flexibility of the spacer has a strong influence on the location and nature of the thermotropic K → L.C. phase transition. Keywords
