Abstract
Edema was found in the uterine tissue on the day of parturition. The number of mast cells was increased significantly on this day, indicating that the time of appearance of the edema is identical to the time of a significant increase in the number of mast cells. These results suggest that mast cells induce the high vascular permeability that permits passage of collagenase-activating proteases to the uterine tissue from the serum. Keywords
