Abstract
An energy-weighted sum rule for magnetic multipole transitions is proposed as a generalization of the Kurath sum rule. The role of the spin-orbit potential is discussed, and corrections due to nuclear interaction are calculated explicitly using Skyrme forces. It is shown that, while for the whole contribution comes from spin-orbit potential, for the main part is due to the kinetic energy.
