Abstract
E. coli strain3350/[lambda] is not infected by either coliphage [lambda] or [lambda] DNA. After treatment of E. coli 3350/[lambda] by a number of procedures which damage or disrupt the bacterial cells, preparations are obtained which are capable of forming coliphage [lambda] when DNA is added. The properties of such preparations support the view that the virus-forming complex is a cellular fragment, osmotically insensitive, and differing from bacterial spheroplasts. Keywords
