Beta-Glucuronidase

Abstract
Infant cord blood contained less [beta]-glucuronidase (B-G) activity than maternal venous blood. At birth there was little B-G activity in infant venous blood. Within 10 days the activity increased several fold. There was no sex differentiation, and breast feeding was not responsible. The amniotic fluid was much higher in enzyme activity than the urine of newborns but less than maternal blood serum. It is assumed that B-G in amniotic fluid does not originate from fetal urine.
