The direction of dislocations in flux-grown crystals

Abstract
The directions of dislocation lines observed in X-ray topographs of flux-grown crystals of KNiF3 and KCoF3 are compared with those directions predicted from elastic energy considerations. Agreement is excellent. Dislocations in these flux-grown crystals prefer to run in directions that minimize their elastic line energy per unit growth length in a similar manner to dislocations in crystals grown from aqueous solution.
