THE IMPORTANCE OF OXYGEN IN THE NUTRIENT SUBSTRATE FOR PLANTS—ORGANIC ACID

Abstract
Detns. were made of the total organic acid content of oat plants grown in varying O2 tensions of the nutrient soln. substrates, with and without a supply of N in the form of nitrate. The yield of total organic acids was invariably higher at low than at high O2 levels, and in plus nitrate than in the minus nitrate cultures. The effect of treatment on the different acids was variable.
