Mentoring in Higher Education: What We Know Now

Abstract
This article reviews the research on mentoring in higher education from three perspectives: mentoring students by faculty, mentoring junior faculty by senior faculty, and mentoring in the career development of administrators. From the twenty-six empirically based research reports reviewed, the authors conclude that the research base is still too sparse and the findings too ambiguous to allow generalizations about either the extent or the impact of mentoring in higher education.
