Autoxidation of the fatty acids

Abstract
Oleic and elaidic acids were treated under conditions such that autoxidation took place and both acids took up more than 20% of oxygen within 48 hours. A small % of the cobaltous salt of the acid provided an efficient catalyst, provided there was a high degree of dispersion and the temp. was high. Stearic acid showed appreciable autoxidation under similar conditions. Water and CO2 were given off.
