Abstract
Using fructose-C14, the transport of fructose across the cell membrane of washed bovine spermatozoa was studied. Fructose transport was sensitive to incubation temperature, to cold shock and to inhibitors such as cyanide, iodoacetate, fluoride, and p-chloromercuri-benzoate. Mutual interference by metabolizable sugars was observed, and transport occurred against a concentration gradient of fructose under anerobic conditions. Anoxia stimulated the transport process.
