Abstract
Any increase in the mutation rate is probably undesirable. A dose 50-times the natural background radiation is necessary to double a spontaneous mutation rate of 10-5; but if the mutation rate is more like 10-6 or 10-7 a dose only three or four times the natural background of 3.3 r/generation will double the rate. Keywords
