Abstract
The 2nd case of C3b [b fragment of the 3rd complement component] inhibitor deficiency is described in an 11 yr old girl who presented with recurrent attacks of meningitis [Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis]. Her serum showed all of the C component changes noted in the 1st described case, although showing only a relatively slight defect in its ability to opsonize bacteria [Staphylococcus aureus] for phagocytosis and killing by polymorphonuclear leukocytes. This correlated with the patient''s freedom from other infections. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
