To the editor: A short discussion on the therapy of disorders related to Lyme disease is relevant to the recent article of Steere and colleagues (1). Lyme disease is related to the syndrome associated with European erythema chronicum migrans (which may include polyneuritis, meningitis, and apparently even arthritis), acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, and tick-induced lymphocytoma. Most uncomplicated cases of European erythema chronicum migrans, acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, and tick-induced lymphocytoma respond favorably to penicillin and tetracyclines (literature cited in Reference 2). But follow-ups have focused mainly on skin symptoms so that cases such as those mentioned below (3) have rarely been described.
