THE BIOASSAY OF MARE SERUM HORMONE

Abstract
Using 395 rats, the assay curves have been constructed for the mare serum gonadotropic hormone. The ovarian wt. curve is more satisfactory for quantitative assay. The rat ovarian unit is defined as the minimum total dose of hormone which, administered to 21 to 23-day old rats weighing 35 to 45 g. in 3 equal subcutan. injs. at daily intervals, will produce at autopsy, 96 hrs. after the 1st inj., a mean ovarian wt. of 65 mg., which is 4 to 5 times that of the controls.
