Abstract
In strain C1 of B. megatherium the endospore is fundamentally oval in shape; the oval may be short or long, straight or curved. Upon germination, the spore sheds a single, highly elastic, thin, perishable coat which resembles the outer coat observed in B. mycoides. The coat is split at the middle or between the middle and the end. It often disintegrates before germination is completed, but there is no evidence that this disintegration is due to utilization by the germinating spore, nor is there evidence for the existence of a 2d, inner coat which is used up during germination.
