Evaluation of the Conformal Solution Theory of Mixing

Abstract
A rigorous derivation of excess mixing properties is performed for molecules whose potential is characterized by an energy parameter ε and a length parameter σ based on the concepts of the conformal solution theory. The integral coefficients of the resultant mixing rules for the excess thermodynamic functions are evaluated a priori, using pair correlation functions from the Percus–Yevick approximate theory. The results are compared with excess mixing properties predicted by the Percus–Yevick theory for mixtures in order to provide a self‐consistent test of the conformal solution theory. The test calculations suggest that the conformal solution theory is inherently poor from a quantitative standpoint.
