Abstract
It is shown that under certain assumptions the Glauber multiple-scattering series can be summed explicitly to give a closed expression for the amplitude describing the interaction of a high-energy particle with a nucleus. The advantages of this description are discussed, and it is shown that available data are well described by the theory. Application of the theory to inelastic processes is given, and it is shown how quantities like and , total scattering cross sections which are not otherwise measurable, can be obtained.
