Abstract
A recent survey in the USA indicated the incidence of renal cell carcinoma to be 5.6/100,000 among male and 4.1/100,000 among female subjects. In mortality and necropsy studies men are twice as likely as women to have this disease. A risk factor for the disease may be cigarette smoking, which may explain the greater frequency among male subjects. Incidence rates seem to be higher for urban populations but no definite incidence is reported for socioeconomic class.
