CHORIOCARCINOMA IN MOTHER AND INFANT

Abstract
Maternal choriocarcinoma after a term pregnancy is unusual,1 and choriocarcinoma in the newborn is rare.2 The only report found in the literature of choriocarcinoma in both mother and infant is that by Buckell and Owen.3 In their case the lesion was diagnosed at autopsy in the infant at 7 weeks of age and by hysterectomy in the mother at about three months post partum. A second such case is reported here. Report of a Case A 3-month-old infant was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic on May 26, 1956. When she was one month old, Dr. Robert K. Gardner, of Canton, Ohio, noticed a small red nodule in the middle of the upper anterior alveolar ridge. This nodule had a tendency to bleed and then it almost completely disappeared. It had been cauterized once with silver nitrate but had recurred luxuriantly (fig. 1, left). When the infant was
