Abstract
An improved analytical procedure was developed for the detection and identification of volatile carbonyl compounds in wet deposition. The procedure was based on the reversed phase liquid chromatographic separation of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone derivatives. The reproducibility and precision of the procedure were > .+-. 10%. Four aldehydes were identified in rainwater samples from Los Angeles [California, USA]. The identities of the compounds were verified by mass spectrometry.
