Lack of Correlation between Plate Tests and Phenol Coefficient Determinations on Germicides and Antiseptics

Abstract
Plate tests and phenol coeff. detns. using vanillin, hematoxylin, and 2 NH4Br compounds against Staphylococcus aureus showed a lack of correlation between the respective results. The authors conclude that neither test should be used to the exclusion of the other nor should agreement between the respective tests be expected because the factors involved in each are distinctly different.
