Selection for Partial Compatibility with Aged and Previously Mated Males in Culex Pipiens Fatigans (Diptera: Culicidae)1

Abstract
Young males of Culex pipiens fatigans Wied. with Paris cytoplasm show incompatibility with Indian females, but aged males show partial compatibility. Females from these partially compatible matings were reared and mated to aged males and the procedure was continued for 6–7 successive generations. As a result of this selection, the level of the partial compatibility with aged males increased significantly. However, there was no effect of the selection on matings with young Paris males. A rough estimate is made of the effects of this phenomenon on a genetic control program.
