Physiologic Abnormalities of Salicylate Intoxication

Abstract
THE following report consists of observations on the physiologic abnormalities produced by salicylate intoxication in a series of 49 infants and children. It presents a summary of the specific physiologic changes illustrated in this clinical experience and examines some of the factors important to the development of these dysfunctions. The clinical manifestations to be discussed in terms of altered physiology include hyperpyrexia, transient hyperglycemia, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis, dehydration and hypernatremia. Reference is made to work that elucidates the mechanisms leading to the observed disorders, and our clinical experience is described within this context.Case MaterialForty-nine children were seen . . .
