Application of the “laves-ernst” compensator in reflected polarized light for the study of strongly absorbing ferroelastic domains of YBa2Cu3O7-δ

Abstract
The principle of operation of the “Laves-Ernst” compensator in polarized reflected light is explained and illustrated by means of the contrast generated between large and lamellar orthorhombic domains of single crystals and epitaxial layers of YBa2Cu3O7-δ (“YBCO”).
