Abstract
70-100% of mice were protected against 100 M.L.D. of H. influenzae with 8 mg. of sulfapyridine given in 1 dose before infection. The drug did not prevent blood invasion but retarded increase of bacteria in blood. Many mice that survived developed a massive bacteriemia. The culture diluted to 10-6 (approx. 500 bacteria) in mucin was lethal for mice. It was isolated from a baby suffering from conjunctivitis and pneumonia, who promptly recovered following treatment with sulfapyridine. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
