"DENSITY OF YEAST CELL AND VISCOSITY OF ITS SUSPENSION"

Abstract

The densities of cell suspensions of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the density of the suspending medium (phosphate buffer) and the volume fraction of the cells in suspensions were measured to calculate the density ρ_y of the yeast cell. The value of ρ_y was determined to be 1.0725±0.0012(g/cm³). The relative viscosities of the cell suspensions were found to be markedly lower than the values calculated from relevant equations thus far presented by various workers for the viscosity of suspensions.
