Chromosome Number and Morphology in Nicotiana VI

Abstract
Four spp. of Nicotiana are reported with 9 pairs of chromosomes (9II), 2 with 10ii, 19 with 12II, 4 with 16II, 1 with 20II, 1 with 22II, 8 with 24II, and 2 with 32II. The 16, 20, 22, 32, and 1 of the 24-paired spp. are Australian. One of the 32-paired spp. probably represents an instance of polyploidy within a species. Certain genetic groupings in Nicotiana are suggested and evidences given for the allopolyploid origin of certain, if not all, of the 24-paired spp.
