Abstract
The effect of partial substitution of Cu for Ag and Pd on the glass forming ability of Mg65Cu25Gd10 alloy has been studied. Mg65Cu15Ag5Pd5Gd10 bulk metallic glass with diameter of at least 10 mm can successfully be fabricated by conventional Cu-mold casting method in air atmosphere. The critical cooling rate for glass formation is estimated to be ∼0.7 K/s. The compressive fracture strength and fracture elongation of the Mg65Cu15Ag5Pd5Gd10 bulk metallic glass are 817 MPa and 1.6% respectively. Keywords
