Myocardial Infarction in the Monkey: Studies on the Collateral Circulation after Acute Coronary Occlusion

Abstract

In monkeys and dogs, myocardial flow fell on coronary ligation by about 50%; thereafter it declined to zero as infarction developed. Pressure transmitted through collaterals to the occluded vessel distal to the ligature was measured and did not materially change during developing infarction, high pressures being recorded 24 hr after ligation.
