The importance of additional knowledge of the ecology of pelagic Foraminifera is stressed. Methods for quantitative collections and study of pelagic Foraminifera are discussed. Study of 5 serial plankton tows indicates that living Foraminifera are present in significant quantities down to a depth of at least 1,000 meters.
