The pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis is reviewed. Four types are descr. - organized pneumonia, healed infarction, healed necrotizing pneumonitis, and interstitial fibrosis. Finally, a progressive form of granulomatous pneumonitis, healing by fibrosis, is descr., and the evidence for considering this a form of a localized pulmonary sarcoidosis is presented.
