TAXONOMIC RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE PSEUDOMONADS

Abstract
Forty species, representative of various genera, and eighty strains, principally pseudomonads, were analysed using the electronic computer technique which is based on Adansonian principles of classification. The analysis clearly separated groups recognized to be taxonomically distinct. Fifty -four Pseudomonas strains out of fifty-eight tested in the analysis of eighty bacterial cultures isolated chiefly from marine sources clustered into 4 large groups which are described in detail. Organisms similar to Pseudomonas aeruginosa clustered into 2 subgroupings: one mesophilic and the other psychrophilic.
