The Pathogenesis of Cystinuria. I. Chromatographic and Microbiological Studies of the Metabolism of Sulphur-Containing Amino-Acids

Abstract
Plasma and urine samples of 2 normal subjects and 2 cystinuric patients were analyzed by paper chromatography and by microbiological assay before and during the 6 hours after feeding loading doses of cystine, cysteine and methionine. Results were interpreted as confirming the theory that in cystinuria there is no error of metabolism of sulfur amino acids in the sense described by Garrod. The biochemical findings could be better explained on the basis only of kidney tubule reabsorption defects.
