Abstract
The angular correlation between the inelastically scattered protons leaving the first excited state of Mg24 (1.37 Mev, 2+) and its de-excitation gamma rays produced by the bombardment of 16.6-Mev protons on a natural magnesium target has been investigated. For θp=30°, 42.5°, and 70° the result shows that the correlation functions are represented fairly well by the simple Born approximation calculation, sin22(θγθ0). However, at larger angles, θp=95°, 120°, and 150°, changes in the shapes of correlation curves are observed, introducing a contribution from a sin2(θγθ0) term. This fact suggests the existence of exchange effect as well as the distortion effect in the present nuclear reactions.
