Effect of an Excess of Ingested Carbohydrate upon the Glycogen Content of Vaginal Epithelium

Abstract
Of 14 normal postmenopausal [female][female] on a general diet divided into 3 groups, those in group 1 were given 200 gs. of extra carbohydrate. After 3 wks. 1 mg. of diethylstilbestrol daily for 12 days was given to groups 1 and 2; those in group 3 were given extra carbohydrate but no stilbestrol. Glycogen (Best carmine method and Mack I vapor method) was present in all vaginal smears regardless of age of subject; it was not increased by extra carbohydrate but diethylstilbestrol produced a rapid uniform increase with or without added dietary carbohydrate.
