Germination in Lachnea cretea

Abstract
Ascocarps of L. cretea (Cooke) Phil. have been obtained from conidia, and conidia from ascospores. Conidia are borne on swollen ends of dichotomously branched conidiophores. Ascospores will not germinate at 18[degree]C. until 8 weeks after leaving the ascus. Earlier germination is induced by hot sunshine or by incubation at appropriate temp. Either short exposure to high temp. or longer treatment at lower temp. is adequate. Young conidia germinate readily, but conidia 33/4 years old would not germinate; ascospores of this age are capable of germination.
