KpElastic Scattering in the1BeVcRange

Abstract
Differential Kp elastic-scattering cross sections have been measured at four momenta in the range corresponding to the T=0, 1815-MeV Kp resonance, using a cylindrical spark chamber surrounding a liquid-hydrogen target. The integrated elastic-scattering cross sections follow the known resonant behavior of the total cross section, and are (18.7±0.7), (23.3±1.0), (17.3±1.1), and (15.2±0.7) mb at 820, 1040, 1150, and 1260 MeVc bombarding momentum, respectively. It is necessary to include cos5θ* terms in order to fit the angular distributions at 1040 and 1150 MeVc, and within the accuracy of the experiment higher terms in cosθ* are not needed throughout the resonance region. This implies that the resonance is due to D52F52 interference, and that the simplest assignment for the spin of the resonance is J=52. No conclusion can be inferred about the parity.
