Abstract
In an attempt to produce an aneuploid series in common oats, Avena sativa, seedlings of foundation lines of the variety Garry were examined for chromosome numbers by squash preparations of Feulgen stained root-tips. A total of 4, 023 seedlings were examined and 24 spontaneous aneuploids were found including 2 nullisomics, 17 monosomics, and 5 trisomics. Karyotype analysis showed 5 different trisomics and at least 6 and possibly 8 different monosomics. 3 monosomics and the 2 nullisomics were completely sterile and were never identified. Data on univalent transmission indicate variations between different chromosome lines.
