A description of 5 carapaces showing supernumerary scutes. The specimens range from one having a single extra costal shield to one with symmetrically arranged supernumerary scutes in vertebral, costal and marginal series. A brief account of the literature relating to such variations is given and the possible correlation between abnormalities in the scutellation and the arrangement and number of the bony plates is discussed.
