Anticonvulsant Effect of Nialamide and Diphenylhydantoin.

Abstract
Nialamide increased the maximal electroshock seizure threshold in mice and rats. This effect was independent of the elevation of brain 5-HT (hydroxytryptamine) and NE (norepinephrine) elicited by nialamide. Diphenylhydantoin in doses from 6 to 55 mg/kg, which was almost 9 times the anticonvulsive dose, did not significantly alter the content of 5-HT or NE in the brain of mice. Nialamide potentiated and reserpine decreased the anticonvulsant effect of diphenylhydantoin. No correlation could be found between these effects and brain amine levels.
