Untersuchung der Thrombocytopoese bei Perniciosa- Kranken

Abstract
Thrombocytopoiesis was studied during the first stage of vitamin B12 treatment in 10 previously untreated patients with pernicious anemia. While the patients'' serum was negative before treatment, 48 and (to a lesser extent) 72 hours after the first effective dose B12 it produced a thrombocytosis. This activity was no longer demonstrable at a later stage. The patients'' platelet count began to rise the day after this activity was first seen. Vitamin B12 evidently only affects pathological thrombopoiesis in the presence of deficiency. It is not yet clear whether the factor promoting thrombocytosis is responsible for the increase in platelet count following the treatment.
