Electronic and Magnetic Structure of SmB6

Abstract

A new electronic configuration involving localized $6s$ electrons is hypothesized for the Sm ions in Sm${\mathrm{B}}_6$. The model is successful in explaining earlier results of susceptibility measurements and new Mössbauer spectroscopy data reported here.
