HETEROGENEITY OF RABBIT ANTIBODY AND ITS SUBUNITS

Abstract
A papain digest of the 0.06M fraction of whole gamma globulin yields a large amount of fraction I and little fraction II, whereas the reverse is true of the 0.5M fraction of gamma globulin. The amount of fraction III obtained was nearly the same in both. If fractions I and II represented different parts of the same molecules, equal quantities of the fractions should be obtained, regardless of the source. It thus appears that fractions I and II are derived from different globulin molecules.
