Abstract
Surveys of predator populations on tobacco at 3 locations in North Carolina showed that the most numerous predator of eggs of Heliothis spp. was Jalysus spinosus (Say). Observable predation on artificial infestations of eggs of the tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens (F.), ranged from 0 to 46% after 48 hours and was correlated with the number of J. spinosus per unit area of foliage. Other potential predators of budworm eggs included Geocoris pllnctipes (Say), Oecanthus spp., and Cyrtopeltis varians (Distant).
