The use of grasping forceps in the upper urinary tract: technique and radiologic implications.

Abstract
A technique for retrieving calculi, foreign bodies or biopsy specimens from the upper urinary tract using flexible grasping forceps under fluoroscopic guidance is described. The instrument, which is available in lengths ranging from 35-45 cm and diameters from 5-F [French] to 9-F, may be inserted into the urinary tract through percutaneous or surgical nephrostomy sites or via a retrograde (cystoscopic) approach. It was successfully employed in 5 patients. A potentially important, if limited, role for this procedure is seen.
