Abstract
Six aliphatic sulfonic acids and sulfamic acid, administered to rats by subcut. injn. as Na salts in neutral soln. produced no significant increases in the excretion of urinary inorganic and ethereal sulfate. The S of injected methanesulfonic acid, iodomethanesulfonic acid and isethionic acid was excreted almost quantitatively in the neutral S fraction of the urine. Injected methanesulfonic acid and iodomethanesulfonic acid were recovered in about 70% yield from the urine of dosed rats in the form of the phenylhydrazine salts. Aminomethanesulfonic acid and alpha-amino.ethanesulfonic acid undergo extensive decomposition to sulfite and sulfate in aqueous soln. at 37[degree] and are unsuitable for inclusion in biochemical expts. of the type descr. Keywords
